Toyota’s quality chief shares his thoughts on Toyota’s safety

Steve St. Angelo, Toyota’s chief quality officer for North America, said that the company has tested, and re-tested, and triple- and quadruple-tested the electronics in its cars, and there is nothing wrong with Toyota’s electronic throttle control. “There are 40 million Toyotas on the road with electronic throttle control. None of them are showing any problems with electronics,” he said. Though he admits that Toyota has had a challenging year, the random sudden accelerations in its vehicles aren’t caused by anything other than sticking gas pedals or floormats, a problem that the company has worked diligently to correct. St. Angelo says he’s been looking for other causes of sudden acceleration, visiting Toyota’s testing grounds in Japan.
