Driver error causes Toyota issues in some instances
Many Salt Lake City new car owners remember the unfortunate recall of millions of Toyota models due to unintended acceleration issues and faulty-brake systems that horribly damaged Toyota’s reputation earlier this year. What the U.S. Department of Transportation recently discovered was that in some cases, drivers may be to blame for some sudden-acceleration accidents. Consumers shopping for a used car in Salt Lake City may want to do their research before completely dismissing the idea of purchasing a new Toyota.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, “The early results suggest that some drivers who said their Toyotas and Lexuses surged out of control were mistakenly flooring the accelerator when they intended to jam on the brakes.” However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to release the discovery and also declined to comment. Salt Lake City new car shoppers are encouraged to find out more information about this article, as it may reassure them that purchasing a Toyota is still a wise choice.
I will admit that my thoughts of ever purchasing a Toyota model quickly left my mind once I heard about the recall several months ago. Unintended acceleration and faulty brakes may be many drivers’ worst nightmare. Who could imagine this horrible vision becoming a frightening reality? I don’t know what I would do if I was traveling down the highway at about 60 miles an hour and suddenly I could not decelerate when I needed to. Many new Toyota drivers experienced this terrible situation, causing the media to negatively expose Toyota and damage the car company’s reputation.
Now some time later, the U.S. Department of Transportation determined that Toyota may not be completely to blame for the unfortunate incident. “The Toyota findings appear to support Toyota’s position that sudden-acceleration reports involving its vehicles weren’t caused by electronic glitches in computer-controlled throttle systems, as some safety advocates and plaintiffs’ attorneys have alleged.”
This discovery may be what Toyota needs to fully redeem their reputation, in addition to the new partnerships and concept models that the car company has been working on since the incident – not to mention the devoted efforts of sales teams at the Salt Lake City used car dealers. Many of us will have to wait to see how helpful the report proves to be. In the meantime, consumers are encouraged to do their own research to find out if purchasing a new Toyota would be a smart choice for them.
